Lentenor Makes His Return Sunday, July 31st at PARX Racetrack.

After over ten months since his last start, four year old Lentenor will be making his first start for his new trainer, Leigh Delacour.  Lentenor will be racing at PARX Racetrack in Bensalem, Pennsylvania in a $47,000 Allowance race on the turf at a distance of one mile and seventy yards, post time is 3:22 eastern time.

The race drew a field of twelve, with Lentenor breaking from the seventh hole, jockey Kendrick Carmouche gets the mount.  I know a lot of you probably haven't heard of Mr. Carmouche, but, trust me, Lentenor is in very capable hands under the guidance of Mr. Carmouche.  Currently, he is in the top thirty in earning's for 2011 and his mounts have hit the top three in almost sixty percent of his starts.

I looked at the field, and no disrespect to the connections or the horses, but, this is a huge drop in class for Lentenor.  Not really a surprise since it is his first race after the long layoff, and he most likely will need this race to get his legs back.  With that said, I honestly will not be surprised if he wins, not expecting it, but it is a real possibility.

Looking back at Lentenor's races since his fourth place finish in the Florida Derby (Grade I): a third place finish in a Allowance optional claiming race, a seventh place in the Kent Stakes (Grade III), and another seventh place finish in a Allowance race.  I honestly believe his injury might have existed in those races after the Florida Derby and it wasn't noticed until after he ran those races.  His shoulder injury seems to be healed up completely judging by his works, so, he will be running comfortably and the only issue might be his fitness level.  The forecast is for temperatures in the low 90's, which doesn't help either.

Here is the field:

1.   Elidefeatspeyton    Jockey K. Pellot             Trainer R. Lima                  ML: 8-1

2.   Tropic Sea              Jockey F. Pennington      Trainer W. Entenmann        ML: 12-1

3.   Jambonied              Jockey J. Arce                Trainer J. Guerrero             ML: 12-1

4.   Halton Gully           Jockey I. Rosendo          Trainer J. Servis                 ML: 10-1

5.   Green Bluff             Jockey O. Figueroa        Trainer P. Farro                 ML:  6-1

6.   Eze Does It             Jockey K. Frey               Trainer R. Preciado           ML: 12-1

7.   LENTENOR          Jockey K. Carmouche  Trainer L. Delacour       ML:  5-2

8.   Fourleaf Street       Jockey R. Bracho            Trainer J. Rodriguez          ML: 20-1

9.   Favorite Hour         Jockey S. Elliott               Trainer M. Trombetta       ML:  8-1

10. Brasilier                  Jockey E. Vaz                  Trainer J. Pregman, Jr.      ML:  7-2

11. Clare Castle            Jockey V. Molina             Trainer F. Meares            ML:  20-1

12. Etarag                      Jockey J. Hampshire, Jr.  Trainer G. Sandoval         ML:  20-1

Even with the long layoff, I will go with Lentenor and Kendrick to win this race and progress forward to an exciting Fall and 2012 campaign.

I will be making the trek down to PARX for this race, nothing would have prevented me from attending Lentenor's return to the track.  I will post my videos and photos when I return later Sunday night!  I hope to get some in the winner's circle :)

Seriously, I just hope for a safe race for Lentenor and the rest of the field.  In all likelihood, Leigh's instructions to the jockey will be not to push Lentenor and just let him run his race after his long layoff.

While it is a little bittersweet seeing Lentenor with a new trainer, I also think it is a exciting time for Lentenor and Mrs. Delacour.  I know all of Lentenor's former connections will be watching and cheering Lentenor on in his return!

Godspeed Lentenor...

  4. Thanks for the update, Greg!!! I hope it will be televised on one of the channels, but whether it is or not, I'm hoping for a safe trip for all and especially Lentenor and hopefully a win. He needs to get his confidence back as much as anything. Thank you!!

  5. I never heard that he was injured, what happened? That would definitely explain why he wasn't running like a horse that ran 4th behind that Derby runner-up. Hoping for a safe and winning run, looks to me like he's the favorite. Guys, HRTV has every race around the world, except races that someone has a contract for (ex. Triple Crown races, breeders cup, etc.)

  6. Just arrived at PARX! It is hot. About 90, but no humidity. One horse has scratched, down to a field of eleven.

    Go Lentenor...

  7. THere has been a second scratch, so it is now a field of 10. May the angels surround these horses and bring them all home safely and sound.

  8. Come on, Lentenor, run a good race and return safely, first or not. I hope the best for the other runners as well. Take care of them all, Father Sky and Mother Earth. And Greg, thanks again for letting us know about the race.

  13. LENTENOR!!! Woohoo!! I am so glad he won. I watched the race on the computer at Parx.com, so they may be showing replays for anyone who missed it. He was beautiful. Made my heart so happy that the Jacksons were there in the Winner's Circle for him. Mrs. Jackson was loving on him and it was so sweet!!! Yay for Lentenor!!

  14. That's wonderful, Lentenor, simply wonderful! Congratulations, my friend, what a race it was! You looked simply stunning! All of that hard work with your new trainer and jockey paid off. I can't wait to see your next race.

  15. Made it look easy :) I think it was under a hand ride. I now like Leigh Delacour, one race with Len and she gets him his 2nd win easily. I think he will easily get a stakes win this year :D.

  16. YAY!! He did it!! Our boy Lentenor is back in the Winners Circle! While its true it was a drop in class its still a win and I do hope it gives his confidence a HUGE boost. BTW the pictures are beautiful and I'm sure the pictures Greg will be posting later are even more beautiful!! Group Hug to Lentenor and all his connections and to all the other FOB's .

  20. Woohoo!!!!! Lentenor I am so proud of you!! We don't get HRTV on DirectTV but we do get TVG but they didn't show it either. I wish somebody got the footage. It would seem that changing trainors was the right decision. I truly believe Lentenor has such potential that we haven't even begun to see yet. Nicanor too.

  23. I didn't realize he'd been injured either, but I suspected due to the long layoff. Any idea why the Jacksons changed trainer and if Nicanor was moved also?

  24. I am glad that Lentenor won. I think that he can win a stakes race. He looked impressive enough in today's race. The thing now is to find the right kind of stakes race to have him entered in.

BTW, what happened to the thread about Lentenor's and Nicanor's new trainer? That was an interesting thread, especially about Barbaro's brother Holy Ground and his sons at the racetrack. Was that thread pulled? If so, why?

Also, I am so glad you are back on here. A couple of us tried to walk in your shoes and it wasn't pretty :-) Mike Relva almost had a nervous breakdown wondering where you were and if you were okay. Um - truth be told, so did I. Whatever it was that kept you away, I hope it has passed and that we will be enjoying your insightful posts regularly again.
@All: A poster on Zenyatta.com mentioned that Margano is a Saratoga. Under Barclay Tagg, could it be that this hunky colt might make a 2YO start there?

And Margano at Saratoga? Would sure be great to see him race there!

Any word on Nicanor and if he will have any starts soon?

  30. Nicanor is on vacation per Mrs Jackson. Seems Dr Richardson wants him to rest for awhile. A real vacation. As for Lentenor, he seemed to have had a shoulder injury and that is why he was sent to the Stephens for his vacation. The Jackson's are taking good care of their boys. Glad to see Lenny doing well and getting back in form with a win.

  31. Awesome win for Lentenor, thanks to anonymous who gave directions on finding the replay. He looked full of run at the top of the stretch and if I hadnt already known he was the winner, I would have seen it coming. Just what he needed, a win after the layoff, to build his confidence. Nice job by Kendrick, Leigh, Stevens TB's, The Jacksons and all the rest of His connections past, present and future.

Also, I jsut wondered if there is anyone posting here that is watching 2 yr olds from first crop stallions. Corinthain, English Channel, Street Sense, Flashy Bull and my personal favorite, Hard Spun. I was away all weekend camping with no TV, computer or even cell phone service. (please, I was pulling my hair out wondering who won all the big races this weekend. It was extremely frustrating) When I got home last night, I was overjoyed to see that Lentenor had won, that Euroears, You gotta love a horse named Euroears, LOL, set a track record, in the Bing Crosby, MY exacta box on Coil(thank you Jason Shandler for that tip) and Shackleford in the Haskell came in, and that Hard Spun was on top of the freshman sire list but a good 20K!! I think he is going to be a very important sire. I need to start a Hard Spun Babies Blog.

  38. Rose, darlin, you've really had a rough year. I'm
so so sorry. Just follow the brothers, they'll help you to feel better -- they all represent love for me -- even the littlest one, who will not be named for a LOONNNG time, if Margano is any indication. Lentenor's race yesterday was so thrilling. Nicanor is on extended rest now, and Margano is about to begin his career. Wouldn't it be nice to have some more photos of both of the younger brothers? Aah, this blessed family!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks everyone and Rose you hang in there. I am here for you too. Its rough losing your family, but everyday is better. Lou, you are right, these brothers make me smile and happy. I am so excited about Margano and the possibility of a race in the near future. Lentenor looked so focused in his race. The jockey, what is known about him?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Penny in TX.....all I have heard about him is that he's the best jockey at that track. He sure rode Lentenor nicely. Hope the rest of the jockeys give him such a good ride.

It does seem like Margano might be racing soon but I'm in no hurry for him to. Maybe he is maturing more like Barbaro but I'm sure hoping Tagg doesn't rush him. I'd really rather they wait until he is three so his bones can grow and get stronger. They are still growing at two. That's just MHO.

  41. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to retire Nicanor to stud now. Nicanor has done as good a job as anyone could reasonably expect, and is 5 years old, so maybe now is a good time. I know that most of the people here are anxious to see Nicanor race again, but he would certainly be safer on a stud farm rather than racing some more.

Nicanor has won some races and is stakes placed, so I think that he qualifies as a stallion. Also, he is a full brother to Barbaro and a son of Dynaformer, so he should be able to get booked to some mares. I think that it would be a good thing for Nicanor to go to stud rather than risk injury by racing again. JMO.

Yes, the Brothers represent love for me and your right Margano and Lent are on the move so there is so much to look forward to. I do thank you for your kind words.
    Now,

Fan of Holy Ground ( I also am a Fan) what you say is true but Nick is the apple of mine eye and missing him would be huge. I would hate to part so soon...seems like yesterday he was a wooly baby...

  43. Boltzapper, son of Holy Ground (Barbaro's 1/2 brother), and Barbaro's nephew, is entered in the Florida Stallion Dr. Fager Stakes Saturday at Calder Race Course, race 12. The race is 6 furlongs and the purse is $75,000.

Boltzapper has the potential to be a real good one IMHO. I have been waiting to see him in a stakes race and I plan to watch the race either at the OTB or Bloodhorse website or both.

I hope that people don't mind me using this thread for this, but what the heck, Holy Ground is family, or at least I think that he should be.

  45. Im not sure if any of you were watching the racing at Saratoga yesterday, But another Dynaformer son, Bearpath stumbled at the top of the stretch first time round in the John's Call stakes unseating Freddie Lenclud. He continued to run, obviously favoring his right foreleg for another 6 furlongs before the Emergency crew caught up with him. He was vanned off the track and I've heard nothing else since then. I hope his injuries are not life threatening. It just breaks my heart and makes me think of all the great ones we have lost in the past few years to injury or the dreaded laminitis. God bless them all.

Penny, Im so sorry about the lose of your brother. I know from experience there is nothing that can really be said to make you feel better. It get's easier if you try to focus on how blessed you were to have him in your life as long as you did. : )

  46. Lou in Texas, their bones continue to grow up to 4-6 years of age. Tagg almost had a triple crown with Funny Cide, I think he knows what he's doing. I personally can't wait until margano starts.
    Fan of Holy Ground

I think Nicanor will retire at the end of the year or early next year before breeding season. He may finish out next year, he won't be that valuable of a stud until he gets a stakes win. Dunkirk was a 3.1 million dollar yearling, stakes placed behind quality road in the Florida Derby, and ran 2nd behind Summer Bird in the Belmont after a stretch duel with MTB, and he was possibly running on an injured leg(came out with a condylar fracture) and he started at 10k. Nick will probably start at 5k with not the greatest book, he will have to work his way up. I have heard several people say Holy Ground doesn't get great mares, and you have to remembr he is by the same damn as Nick(if I have read yal right lol).

Anyways I can't wait til all their next races, maybe Len will be a force to reckon with in the 2nd half.:)

  48. Boltzapper finished 4th as the odds on favorite in his stakes race at Calder today. Boltzapper appeared to be in good position, but faded near the end. The track was sloppy and maybe Boltzapper didn't like the slop. A little disappointing, but there should be other stakes races. Just stay healthy.

Jiminy Cricket: I think that you are right as far as Holy Ground not getting great mares or not even very good ones. The dam of Boltzapper has produced a stakes winner, but Holy Ground had already sired Boltzapper before anyone knew that the mare had produced anything good. So, Holy Ground being booked to a good broodmare was probably an accident.

As far as Nicanor is concerned, I think that if he wins a stakes race, it may make a little difference as far as his stallion service is concerned, but not that big a difference unless it is a graded stakes, and I am not sure that Nicanor can win a graded stakes at this point.

Nicky might get a good book of mares anyway. I think that a lot of people on these threads would breed their mares to Nicanor if they had mares to breed. They love him.

Anyway, I just hope that everything works out for the best for Nicanor.

    Take care.

  49. I too think they start these horses too early, they are being ridden as young two yr olds which is ridiculous. Ive heard the argument that stressing the bones makes them stronger but Im not buying it. The problem with that theory is that research has shown that a horses knees are not fully developed until they are 3. I own a young horse, an Arabian colt, He turned 3 in May and we are just now saddling him. I know I'm a little behind, but he has been a project and he likes to be difficult. (im facing the fact that he should be gelded but I hate it because he is so beautiful) My point is, I would never have dreamed of getting on his back until he was 3. I was raised around horses and this was always the case. Don't ride them till they are 3. A horse is not fully mature until age 7. My horse has had hours and hours of ground work and is pretty fit and the vet says he has great bone and very hard feet. I want to make an endurance horse out of him so this is a good thing. I guess going slowly with a horse is easy when there is no money at stake, but i think it's better for the horse.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Dearn, most everybody around where I live starts their horses at 2. I jumped 3'8 on a 3 year old in catch me charlie(just for the record i didnt get along with him that great, I could barely get him over 1' that January, this was last year). My friend has sent all her horses to a trainer right after their 2nd birthday. They are usually harder to train the longer they sit in pastures. I think it might be better to wait and start heavy training at 3,but still start them at 2. You have to think though, some horses back in the old days raced 20x at 2. True, my personal horse wasn't started til he was 4, but he want in a good situation before my friends trainer bought him, and he was only started then, because me and my friend decided we needed a new horse. So, I think it's ok to start them at 2, but maybe they should wait til their 3 for breezing, etc.

  51. Margano was listed as having a five furlong breezing from the gate type workout today at Saratoga. He was 8/25.

You are absolutely right, as hard as this last year was, I would gladly do it over again. I think we talked more than we ever had before. We have some awful good memories.

I too would rather see Nicanor retired and enjoying the ladies. He is my special brother and he gave to all of us so much more than just winning races. Sounds like Margano is coming along nicely. Anyway, everyone have a great Monday!!

  55. Anonymous: That could work. With all the Northern Dancer and Roberto in there, you might end up with a good turf horse. Also, there is an old breeding nick that I understand has worked well in the past: Hail To Reason/Bold Ruler.
