Lentenor wins !
Setting a new track record in the process!
He went 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf in 1:40.95, sweet!

What a smart, mature, and very impressive race by Luis Garcia and Lentenor.
Jockey Luis Garcia:
“Everything came out perfect,” said a beaming Garcia. “He got a clean trip and we got him to do what we wanted. He was just cruising, cruising, cruising, then I asked him at the end and he did it. I knew I had the horse so I was really just the passenger. He is a nice, nice horse.”
Trainer Leigh Delacour:
“We entered him at Laurel before we came here but the race was off the turf and we scratched him, so this horse has been ready to run for more than a month,” Delacour said. “I think Luis rode a superb tactical race. Congratulations to the Jacksons for being very patient with this horse. All the parts came together today.”
Delacour said she expects the son of Dynaformer-La Ville Rouge to stay on the turf for the foreseeable future. “We tried him once this summer on dirt and he ran evenly, and you see today he finished his race well. When you see a horse show that turn of foot on the turf, it behooves you to keep him there.”
Thank you to Roy and Gretchen Jackson, Arnaud and Leigh Delacour, and all involved for having Lentenor ready for this race, both mentally and physically, bravo!
A wonderful Christmas gift for all !!!
Merry Christmas...
It has been ten weeks since we last saw Lentenor on the track, a seventh place finish at Keeneland back on October 9th. The wait is over as Lentenor makes his return today at Tampa Bay Downs, racing in a $32,000 Allowance optional claiming race on the turf at a distance of 1 1/16 miles, post time is about 3:12 eastern time and is the seventh race of ten on today's card. Lentenor has been stabled at Tampa for just over a month and has been training well there, having recorded three published works, all on the dirt with the latest having him cover five furlongs in a breezing time of 1:02.60.
On a side note, for those wondering about Lennie's big brother Nicanor, he is also in Tampa and we should start seeing some recorded works from him very soon. If all goes well, Nicanor should make his return to the track as a six year old in late winter/early spring. Nicanor was given the time off since his last race back in May to have some time just to be a horse, call it a mental/physical vacation if you will.
Lentenor (#4), who will officially turn five years old in just over a week on New Years Day, will be facing nine rivals in the field of ten older runners. Luis Garcia will have the mount on Lentenor, they drew the four hole to break from, which I believe it is a good spot for the two of them. Luis rides quite often for Lentenor's trainer, Leigh Delacour, and should be a good fit for Lentenor (I hope). The turf should be fine, as today's weather calls for sunny skies with temperatures around eighty degrees. The field is a pretty big drop in class from Lentenor's last race at Keeneland and is reflected in the morning line odds, where Lentenor was made the second choice at odds of 7-2 with Beckham Bend being the favorite at 5-2 odds.
While looking at the field, I do believe everyone will be chasing the seven year old gelding Riversrunrylee(#7), who will be making his 67th start and is coming off two straight wire to wire victories. Both of the races were taken off the turf and run on the dirt at both Calder and Delaware Park. The question for Riversrunrylee, can he get the distance? I don't believe he will, and we will see him fade coming down the stretch. As far as the morning line favorite, Beckham Bend (#8), the six year old colt will be making his first start in eight months, having last race in April when he finished second at Gulfstream Park in the Island Whirl Stakes. I honestly don't see him being a factor after the long lay-off, I believe he will need this race and I don't see him finishing in the top three, we shall see. The wildcard in the race is the lightly raced three year old gray, Red All Over (#3). Making just his fifth start, Red All Over does have two wins, the latest coming at Churchill Downs in an Allowance race on the turf at a distance of a mile last month. If he runs back to that race, he could easily win this race, and at a morning line of 12-1, one could get a decent price on him (even though I fully expect those odds to come down). The one that scares me the most is the five year old gray gelding Blazen (#10). Blazen will be breaking from the tenth hole, if he can overcome that, he will be a force to reckon with. If we see Blazen near the top three early in the race, watch for him to make a strong move turning for home. He has run very well on the Tampa turf course in the past and he might be side by side with Lentenor, while in a stalking position most of the race. The question is, who will have the bigger kick at the end? My guess is Lentenor, with Blazen right there to finish a close second. Obviously, a lot depends on Lentenor getting a good trip and staying out of trouble. If that happens, Lentenor should be in a stalking position behind Riversrunrylee most of the race and come charging at the end to get his third victory in twelve starts and give his connections and all of us fans a wonderful early Christmas present!
With all that said, I see Lentenor earning a hard fought victory, with Blazen a close second, and Red All Over rounding out the top three (even though he could also pull out a victory). Bottom line, just hope it is a safe race for all and they all come out of the race safely!

Godspeed Lentenor...
Good luck today, Lentenor. I hope that everyone has a safe race. And a win would be wonderful, but safety first, my friend.

That woman didn't even have Lentenor in her picks..
ReplyDeleteTime to prove her wrong, go Lentenor! <3
HE WON!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay Lentenor!!
And I got to watch! :D
-Arem
Yes!!!!! He won!!!! Great job len! That florida son is doing the boys gods! ;)
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
I watched it on my computer. I am so happy he won! This was my first time seeing him run and wow. I was worried for a minute But I am so proud of him. Atta boy lenny. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!! I'm so proud of you Lentenor... I watched it on my computer too and you just smoked 'em! Keep it up Big Guy!!!
ReplyDeleteI forgot, that post @ 3:28 was from me, Joy in Texas..lol
ReplyDeleteYeah Lentenor!! You are Awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteA GREAT win by Lentenor !!!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC WIN BY LENTENOR!!! Very professional and highly praised by the HRTV commentators. (TVG is useless -- did not cover it.) they said that this was Len's best race ever and that he should have a great 5 year old year.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lenny, and Merry Christmas to you, too! I love you so....
Daffodil
Great early Christmas present!! Love you, Lentenor.
ReplyDeleteI did not know he set the track record until I looked at Three Chimneys Facebook status! Sweet!
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Great job, Lentenor! And he set a track record! That's stunning! Great job, Lentenor!
ReplyDelete~American Quail Lover
That race at Keeneland was deceptive. While he was far back in finish order, he was not very far behind the winners and was trapped on the rail all the way around the track. If he had been able to run at all, I think he could have taken it.
ReplyDeleteHe finally got a post position break today and was able to show his stuff. And did he ever!
Well done Lentenor!!! And you WILL have a great five year old season!!!
In fact, I think all of the brothers will have very good years in 2012!
Here is an article on bloodhorse on his race:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/66709/lentenor-scores-at-tampa-bay-downs
Lentenor looked awesome! He looks so powerful. I had to watch the race several times, he just looked so good! Great pictures and videos. Its hard to believe our Nicanor is 6 years old. He is growing up so fast. He is still my special one, glad he had a vacation to just be a horse!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!! Thanks for posting the video, Greg!! I had family stuff going on this afternoon so I did not get to watch the race, but I am so happy that he won in such a strong and decisive fashion. Go, Lentenor!!
ReplyDeleteHe set a track record!!??
ReplyDeleteWow!! I was thrilled with the win. I am over the moon to have that on top of it!! :D

Bonjour Lentenor,
ReplyDeleteWow! Another win by Barbaro's brother.
Congratulations, Lentenor!
I just watched the replay, and what a race!
Hopefully soon you will be racing in a stakes race.
You can do it, Lentenor!
Awaiting the return of Nicanor. I am looking for 3 wins in a row by the Barbaro brothers.
Lots of love to you, Lentenor!
I am eager to see your next race.
Thank you!
Lise from Maine
I just watched the rave again, did he even get whipped? He certainly didn't look to be trying very hard.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Congratulations to Lentanor, the Jacksons, the Delacours and everyone involved. A very Merry Christmas to All!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas or Happy whatever your holiday is yall !!!!! And thanks for the awesome Christmas present Len!
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
So proud of you beautiful boy! You looked magnificent! Love you and your brothers so much. Keep safe.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Lentenor! May all have a Happy New Years! I don't think Lentenor was whipped, perhaps tapped, but not whipped. He did it so easily. I love you, Lentenor. Wonderful job!
ReplyDelete~American Quail Lover
Lentenor ran an 89 beyer, and may be pointed towards the grade III Tampa Bay Stakes! also, the grey that beat Margano, Liquidity Trap is now stakes placed. He ran a close closing 2nd in I believe it was the king congat? Stakes.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Hey I havent heard anything on Nicanor. Anyone know whats going on with him?
ReplyDeleteLentenor's photos are so beautiful. He and Margano really do look alike except that Margano is darker. I think they will all darken ultimately. Lentenor's race was a display of his brilliance and I really like Luis on him -- they were in complete synch.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone had a beautiful Christmas and will have a wonderful New Year.
Daffodil
I wonder if Liquidity Trap will become a future rival of Margano's, should he stay on turf. I think personally, that Margano is a dirt horse. Congratulations to Liquidity Trap for his second place by the way. Luis did wonderfully with Lentenor. I truly agree that they are a good pair.
ReplyDelete~American Quail Lover
Happy new year everyone! Nick is 6? Len is 5, and Margano is 3. Let's hope for a great year with the bros!
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
I can't believe my beloved little Nicky is 6!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! How quickly the time goes....
-Arem
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur boys are growing up. We need to put books on their heads, except maybe for Margano. We want him to continue to grow. I tease my Grandkids about growing so fast and that they need to put a book on their heads to slow down. Surely showing my age by that comment.
I hope they all do well in this new year of 2012. Maybe we'll get some news on Babynor 2 before long. I'm sure he's growing up as well.
Soo proud of all our boys. We love you soo much.

Jiminy, Don't forget the littlest brother who is now a yearling. Happy birthday to all the brothers of Barbaro.
ReplyDeleteCriminal Type
I thought about him, but we don't know name or anything, we really don't know anything about him yet. The most recent picture is when he was 3 months old would be my guess. :(
ReplyDeleteWoops that was me, Jiminy Cricket.
ReplyDeleteJiminy, I call him Cinco because, counting Barbaro, he is number five. lol :p
ReplyDelete-Arem
Haha, that's a good one!! Most people are calling him babynor2, which is redundant cause that's what we all called Margano. I wish they would have some updated pix though.<3
ReplyDeleteUghhh, I forgot AGAIN. That was me!!!!
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
I almost forgot when I posted the last comment. It must be catching O.O
ReplyDeletelol
And yes, updated pictures would be marvelous! He such is a looker!
-Arem
Margano worked 5 furlongs this morning at Gulfstream Park. He was 2/f at the distance behind stablemate Big Herman.
ReplyDeleteIf they name the yearling as follows it would be Sereno. Now, there is a horse registered with the Jockey Club named Sereno born in 2008 (he looks to be unraced), but the name is not in protected status, like Barbaro's name. Im not sure if this means they can use it for the youngest brother but there is more then one case of horses with the same name. Look at Nicanor, he is the 8th Nicanor in the stud book. The other Sereno is a British bred colt which strenghtens my feeling that the Jacksons can use it.
Criminal Type
That should say he was 2/5 at the distance, Bad Fingers !
ReplyDeleteSereno would've been used for a filly, had there been one, completely a girls name! (I know because it is basically my name!) I think Margano should be racing with in 2-3 weeks, since its almost been a month since his last race. Mr. Tagg said it would probably be an allowance(I think I read this on DRF.)
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Jiminy, yea, I heard that too, about the allowance race and agree, because if he elects to go in an allowance with Margano he still has plenty of time to run in a couple graded stakes if he points derbyward. However, I respectfully disagree with you about Sereno being a filly's name. The horse in England named Sereno is a colt. If it was Serena, yea, FEMALE. I think this is pernounced like the french dude with the long nose and im guessing at the spelling Cyrano de Bergerac. The final hound in the painting, Calypso would have been the filly's name.
ReplyDeleteCriminal Type
As far as I know ALL of the dogs were male.
ReplyDeleteBut they already skipped "Sereno" which would have been the third name after Nicanor and Lentenor and we all know our third brother is named Margano.
Irc it was said the Jacksons won't name the latest brother after one of the dogs. So let's see and wait until next year..
Hi!
ReplyDeleteI believe that Nicanor was born on March 15th, 2006 so he is not quite 6 yrs old, and Lentenor was born on April 20th,2007.
I was hoping that Lentenor would be born on my granddaughter's (Marina) birthday which is April 19th but he arrived about two hours later on April 20th.
Oh, such bad luck for me!
Additonally, I believe that Margano was born on March 10th, 2009.
He is my Kentucky Derby hopeful.
I believe that the new baby was born on May 18th of 2011.
Barbaro was born on April 29th, 2003.
If any of these are wrong, let me know.
Thank you!
Lise from Maine
Lisa from Maine, even thought those are their birthdays, all TBs officially "Turn" on Jan.1! So, Barbaro would officially be 9, Nicanor 6, Lentenor 5, Margano 3, and the new one is 1.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Margano is racing Sunday and Edgar Prado is his jockey!! Edgar was aboard a horse in Margano's last race and must have been impressed to change his mind and decide to ride one of Barbao's brothers after all. He is very, very emotional about them and protective. How exciting!
ReplyDeleteDaffodil
Oh my gosh!!! Yay!!!! I think he rode Nick once or twice, maybe it was Lenny. And didnt i just say earlier this week that I thought he may be racing soon since it had been almost a month since his last start? I must be telepathic! Lol, jk.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
He's the 3/2 favorite of 10, so he's obvious impressed a lot of people! It's the 8th race, an allowance oc for 3 year olds who've never won a race other than maiden and maiden claiming, and maybe claiming.1 1/16 on the turf.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Anonymous, that's wrong. They have not already skipped Sereno. The hounds were in order. Barbaro, Nicanor, Lentenor, Margano, Sereno and Calypso. Google "Barbaro's Foxhounds" and the BH article will come up giving the names in order.
ReplyDeleteJiminy, I just saw 3/1 but OK, works for me. The oddsmaker at GP must be pretty confident. I did see Argentine Tango Break his maiden. I think that he will be Marganos biggest threat.
Woops!! I meant 3/1!! I post off my phone, which is a touch screen, so typos galore!!! Lol
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
FYI,
ReplyDeleteI will be looking at the field for Margano's race when I get home in a little bit, and will have a blog entry about the race later tonight.
Very exciting to see that Edgar will be on board!
As far as the weight Margano is carrying. It is written in the conditions of the race. All in the field start at 122 pounds, then, the conditions read: "Weight, 122 Lbs. Non-winners of a race at a mile or over since December 8, 2011 Allowed 2 Lbs. Such a race since November 8, 2011 Allowed 4 Lbs. That is why Margano is the only one at 122 pounds, he is the only one to have won a race since December 8th. Hope that helps :)
Looking forward to Margano's race on Sunday at Gulfstream with Edgar Prado on board. Good Luck and Godspeed Margano and Edgar!
ReplyDeleteFixed your comment :)
ReplyDeleteDeanhardtrlz3, no, Look here:
http://www.barbaroandnicanor.blogspot.com/
You can see Margano, Sereno, Lentenor, Nicanor, from left to right. They skipped Sereno.
Very excited about Margano's next race!
Well Greg, That's not the way the BH article has it, but whatever. That sucks, but I dont understand why they wouldnt use it anyway, It's not a protected name and the colt named Sereno is british bred. Someone should have thought to reserve the names if they were planning on using all the foxhounds in the painting. Especially when they went public with that intention. There's always someone out to ruin the party by stealing your idea.

Criminal Type,
ReplyDeleteNot agreeing, just fixed the link in the comment ;)
Having a heck of a time posting my latest entry on Margano's race tomorrow, ugh! I had a complete breakdown of the race, but, lost most of it for some reason, very frustrating! Will start again...
Have fun with that greg.;) I hate when I lose my work like halfway through. It is definetely frustrating! Hope the breakdown will be good, though! What am i talking about? THEY ALWAYS ARE!!!!!! I definitely can't wait for the race. Lets go, 3 straight!
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Hi Jiminy,
ReplyDeleteI just discovered that every horse is officially a year older on January 1st.
I find that rather interesting.
The new baby, who was born on May 18, 2011, will be less than 3 years old if he is entered in the Kentucky Derby of 2014.
Thanks for the information.
Lise from Maine
Good luck, Margano!
ReplyDeleteI am eager to see the replay later this evening.
Lise from Maine
Lisa, it is due to age restricted stakes. You wouldnt want a 2008 colt to be running against Margano in this years Derby? Margano wouldve been just turned 3, and that colt would be almost 4.
ReplyDeleteJiminy Cricket
Still don't have the other site fixed yet. Lentenor worked out today at Tampa Bay, four furlongs in 51:00 Breezing. Track condition: Fast, Surface: Dirt and Rank: 63/75. Our boy is stretching his legs some today. Good to see him back at work.

What other site?

Is Nicanor racing on this Friday at Keeneland???
ReplyDeleteSaw in a Bloodhorse article he is racing in a very high end allowance race against a bunch of graded stakes winners????
That race might be an allowance, but it has a graded stakes quality field...if he is running hope he does GREAT on his return to the track!
